Model Shipways Wood Ship Kit Glad Tidings Pinky Schooner 1:24 Brief History: Originating in 16th century Europe, the Pinky received its name from its uplifted, narrow, or “pinked” stern. These sturdy, seaworthy craft ruled the New England fishing industry from 1815 to 1840. They were gradually replaced by the larger, faster Gloucester schooners. Because of their stability and grace, many pinky schooners were built as pleasure boats in the late 1900’s. Model Shipways’ Glad Tidings plans are based on original drawings by Howard I. Chapelle for a typical Maine pinky, a boat he had built and actually sailed. Launched in 1937, Chapelle’s Glad Tidings was a two-masted schooner with a gaff rigged fore and aft mainsail, and single jib.
